Proud to Be an American: A Grateful Heart for the Country I Love
By Deb Long | Today's Home Real Estate
There are moments in my life when gratitude wells up and overflows. One of those days comes around each year, known as Independence Day, also commonly referred to as July 4th. The day of America's birth is the perfect day for me to reflect and celebrate the goodness of God.
As we enter July, I've been reflecting more deeply on what it means to live in the United States of America, and I can't help but say it plainly: I am proud to be an American!
Not out of arrogance. Not out of naivety. But out of genuine, grateful, faith-filled love for a country that has allowed me to live in freedom, pursue my purpose, and build a life of meaning.
The United States is not perfect—we've had our trials and flaws, and we continue to learn and grow. But the foundation of this country is unlike any other. America was built on the bold belief that every person is created equal, with God-given rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. That kind of freedom isn't just a political concept—it's a spiritual truth. And it's one I hold close to my heart.
I am proud to live in a nation where I can worship freely and where I can open my Bible without fear. Where I can pray in public, speak my mind, and raise my children with the values I believe in. That kind of freedom, well, it's priceless! And it's been paid for by the sacrifice of brave men and women who laid down their lives so that I could live mine in peace.
As a small business owner, I've seen firsthand how America still offers the freedom to dream, to work hard, and to build something meaningful. Today's Home isn't just a real estate brokerage to me—it's a ministry. It's a place where I get to serve others, honor their stories, and help them find more than a house—I help them find a home and build a legacy. That calling is one I take seriously, and I'm grateful I get to answer it here in this great country.
One of the most beautiful things about America is that it makes space for so many stories. Every home I step into has a story of perseverance, hope, and legacy. From first-time buyers stepping into their future to mature adults downsizing into something more manageable, I see the American dream unfolding one closing at a time.
I don't take it for granted. The freedom to worship, to speak, to build, to love, to serve—these are not rights enjoyed everywhere in the world. But here in America, we are blessed to live under a banner of liberty.
And as I watch the flag fly or hear the National Anthem play, my heart fills with emotion—not because we've arrived, but because we still believe. We still strive. We still hope. We still choose freedom.
This season, as the fireworks light up the sky and we gather with loved ones to celebrate, I'll be giving thanks for this nation and the life I am fortunate enough to live. For the freedom we enjoy. And for the responsibility that comes with it—to serve others, love deeply, and stand strong in our faith.
Because freedom isn't just about what we get—it's about how we give. And I want to give my best to the community I love in the country I cherish.
May God bless you, your home, and the United States of America—the land of the free because of the brave. Happy Birthday, America!!
